Our lab's first PhD student cohort, Maria, Changseob, and Jimin, successfully passed their PhD qualifying exam! They are now officially a PhD candidate!
2025 American Society of Biomechanics Annual Meeting
August 13 ~ 16, 2025
Several lab members attended the 2025 American Society of Biomechanics Annual Meeting in Pittsburgh. Changseob, Jimin, Maria, Vaidehi, and Adrian participated by giving a poster presentation. Our lab also gave a formal lab tour to the ASB attendees.
Two new PhD students join the lab!
August 1, 2025
Ilseung Park and Nate Shoemaker-Trejo joined our lab as the second cohort of PhD students! Nate was already our lab member and will continue to work on hip exoskeleton design and control. Ilseung comes with biomechanics and model simulation experience and will work towards RL-based control policy sim2real transfer. Welcome!
Rehabweek conference
May 12 ~ 16, 2025
Inseung, Changseob, Jimin, and Maria attended the 2025 RehabWeek conference in Chicago, representing our lab at the ICORR consortium. This was our first official conference appearance as a lab.
Jimin presented his poster titled “Optimizing Locomotor Task Sets for Training a Biological Joint Moment Estimator.”
Changseob presented his poster titled “Personalization of Wearable Sensor-Based Joint Kinematic Estimation Using Computer Vision for Hip Exoskeleton Applications.”
Maria gave a podium talk titled “Ground Perturbation Detection via Lower-Limb Kinematic States During Locomotion.”
We also had the opportunity to tour the renowned Shirley Ryan AbilityLab and learn about the latest clinical research in wearable robotics!
2025 MechE PhD Graduate Symposium
March 28, 2025
PhD students Changseob, Jimin, and Maria gave their first formal presentations on their ongoing research at the 2025 CMU Mechanical Engineering PhD Research Symposium.
MetaMobility Lab's first grant awarded!
January 30, 2025
We won our lab's first grant from the NIH NIBIB! This award was the R21 Trailblazer Award for New and Early Stage Investigators in collaboration with Dr. Owen Beck from UT Austin. The project is on the "AI-driven hip exoskeleton control framework that rapidly generalizes to a broad range of users and real-world locomotor tasks."
